Have you ever thought about taking a day trip away Kansas City? Did you know that Topeka, KS is just about an hour away from Kansas City? There is a lot to see in Topeka. Not only is it the State Capital of Kansas, it also has the Combat Air Museum and lots of local restaurants. My favorite lunch location is the Hu-Hut Mongolian grill.

The Combat Air Museum is a top choice where you can see aircraft from World War I. It has served as an educational institution and tourism destination for forty-seven years. It is one of a handful of major aviation museums in the United States located on an active air field. Visitors to the Museum are often treated with flying activities from the Air Force fighter planes and Army helicopters. You’ll often catch some of the largest planes the military has to offer at the Museum as they stop to refuel their engines.

The Kansas State Capital in Topeka, Kansas is located near the Combat Air Museum. The Capital allows you to walk around its 20-acre grounds and enjoy the many statues, monuments and memorials. I also make arrangements for a group guided tour inside where we can often step inside the court chambers. Did you know that it also has a replica of the Statue of Liberty? It was donated to the Capital by the Boy Scouts of America.

So grab your walking shoes and come and enjoy this day trip from Kansas City to Topeka. If you are feeling really ambitious you can climb the 296 steps to the top of the Capital and check out the amazing view from the top. It is 1 of 3 State Capitols left that allow you to go inside the dome.
