Join us for a tour of the Topeka State Capitol to see the art and beautiful architecture and learn about how it came to be during it’s 37 year building time.
A guided tour will start us out with plenty of time to see more on your own. You can even join in the challenge and take the dome tour up to the top for an even better view of the city. 296 steps to be exact! Well worth the effort.
Lunch will be at a local hot spot with plenty of options including gluten free choices.
Next stop will be what I believe to be the best kept secret in Topeka, The Mulvane Museum. The Mulvane Art Museum opened in 1924 and is the oldest accredited art museum west of the Mississippi River. While international in scope, the museum’s collection emphasizes the works of artists in Kansas and the Midwest. Many sculptures to see outside as well.
Activity Level:
Moderate walking with this tour with the options to climb to the top of the 296 step spiral staircase. The staircase is 296 steps to the top of the dome include a series of straight, steep, narrow, spiral, and irregularly spaced landings and stairs. There are no rest areas, seats, or restrooms available on the tour route.
